College Mound is a small, unincorporated community in Kaufman County, Texas. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own city government. It is located in the U.S. state of Texas. In the year 2000, about 350 people lived there. College Mound is also part of the larger Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area.

History of College Mound
College Mound was one of the very first communities in Kaufman County. People from Indiana and Tennessee started settling here in the mid-1840s.
Early Community Life
After it was settled, College Mound grew to have several stores. It also had a cotton gin, which was a machine used to separate cotton fibers. A church was an important part of the community from early on.
The Community Church
A Methodist church was built in 1845. The next year, a cemetery was started next to it. In 1866, land was officially given by W.T. Patton for a permanent church site. The church building that stands today was built in 1897. This special church hosted five different religious groups: Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, Missionary Baptist, and Primitive Baptist.
Post Office and Growth
A post office opened in College Mound in 1850. It stayed open until 1874, with a short break during the American Civil War. John L. Beck was the postmaster, which is the person in charge of the post office. Even in the 1980s, the church was still a very important place for the community. Many of its members were descendants of the first settlers. At that time, College Mound had several scattered houses, the church, and the cemetery. Its population was 350 in 2000.
Where is College Mound?
College Mound is located on Farm to Market Road 429. It is about 5 mi (8.0 km) southeast of a town called Terrell. This area is in the eastern part of Kaufman County.
Education in College Mound
There were once plans to build a college in College Mound. However, these plans were never completed. College Mound did have its own school for local children. In 1949, this school joined the Terrell Independent School District.

- William Madison McDonald: He was born in College Mound. He became a well-known politician, businessman, and banker.
