Collores is a special area called a barrio in the town of Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,073 people lived there. Collores is very well-known across Puerto Rico. This is mostly thanks to a famous poem. The poem is called El Valle de Collores (The Valley of Collores). It was written by a famous Puerto Rican poet, Luis Lloréns Torres.
History of Collores
Collores has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This was part of a census. They found that 2,835 people lived in the Collores barrio at that time. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the chart below.
