The Color Factory is a super fun place where you can experience art in a new way! It's an interactive art show and a "selfie museum". This means you can touch, play with, and become part of the art. Each room is filled with bright colors and cool art pieces.

You can find permanent Color Factory locations in New York City, Chicago, and Houston. Many people call places like the Color Factory "Instagram museums." This is because they are designed to be great for taking photographs, especially selfies. People love to share these photos on Instagram and other social media.

However, one of the founders, Jordan Ferney, said her main goal was to create something beautiful to experience. She wanted people to enjoy the art itself, not just take pictures.

Many talented artists have shown their work at the Color Factory. Some of these artists include Jason Polan, Lakwena Maciver, Molly Young, Tosha Stimage, and Tom Stayte. The exhibits are really exciting! You might find giant ball pits, rooms full of balloons, or even illuminated dance floors. There are even cameras set up to help you take amazing photos.

How Color Factory Started

The Color Factory first opened its doors in August 2017. It was created by Jordan Ferney, who plans events and writes a blog. She worked with artist Leah Rosenberg and designer Erin Jang.

The First Show in San Francisco

The very first Color Factory show was in San Francisco. It was planned to last for just one month. This first show had 15 different art rooms. It was a big hit and became very popular! So many people wanted tickets that the website crashed. Because it was so popular, the show stayed open much longer. It ended up being open for over eight months!

Expanding to New York City

In 2018, the Color Factory teamed up with the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. They created an outdoor art project called the "Manhattan Color Walk." This project painted colorful stripes on the ground. Each stripe's color was taken from a different street in Manhattan.

Later in August 2018, the Color Factory opened a new show in New York City. This was a bigger show with 16 art rooms. It was located in the SoHo neighborhood.

Opening in Houston and Awards

In November 2019, the Color Factory opened another exciting exhibition in Houston. The Color Factory has been recognized for being a great place to visit. It was voted one of the best immersive art experiences in the US for 2024 and 2025. This award came from USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.
