History of Columbia
Columbia Lake Dam
In 1909, a company called Jersey Central Power and Light built the Columbia Lake Dam. This dam was built on the Paulins Kill river to create Columbia Lake. It helped produce hydroelectric power, which is electricity made from moving water.
However, the dam was removed in 2018. This was done to help fish move more easily along the river. Removing the dam also improved the natural environment for the river and its streams.
