Columbiana Centre is a big indoor shopping mall in Columbia, South Carolina. It first opened its doors in 1990. You can find it right off Interstate 26 and U.S. Route 76.
Most of the mall is located in Lexington County. However, a small part of it reaches into Richland County. The mall has a huge amount of space for stores, about 788,103 square feet! It has four main "anchor" stores. These are two Belk stores, Dillard's, and JCPenney. One of the Belk stores, which sells men's clothing, opened in 2015. It took the place of an old Sears store that closed in 2014.
Mall History: How it Grew
Columbiana Centre was built by a company called Homart Development Company. When it first opened in 1990, it had two main stores: Belk and Sears.
Adding More Stores
In 1993, Dillard's joined the mall as a third main store. A new section was also added, stretching out diagonally. In 1995, another store called J. B. White became a main anchor.
But things changed in 1998. Dillard's bought J. B. White. So, the J. B. White store at the mall closed. Belk then moved into that empty space. A new store called Parisian opened in the old Belk spot.
New Stores and Changes
In 2005, Parisian closed down. JCPenney then moved into that space. Another big change happened in March 2014 when the Sears store closed.
In 2015, the Belk store expanded. They opened a large men's store in the old Sears space. This added 50,000 square feet to Belk. It made it one of Belk's most important stores.
Recent Additions
On February 13, 2017, a Dave and Buster's opened at the mall. It's on the outside, in part of the space that Sears used to occupy. In March 2018, a cosmetics store called Riley Rose by Forever 21 also opened at the mall.
