Sir Colville Norbert Young (born 20 November 1932) is a Belizean leader. He was the second governor-general of Belize. A governor-general is the Queen's representative in a country like Belize. Sir Colville also supports the Scout Association of Belize. He became Governor-General in 1993 and was made a knight in 1994.
He served for 28 years, which is the longest time any governor-general has served in the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is a group of countries that used to be part of the British Empire.

Learning and Studies
Sir Colville went to St Michael's College in Belize. He earned a first degree in English from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. Later, he got a special degree called a doctorate in linguistics from the University of York in England. Linguistics is the study of language.
He was also a Fulbright Scholar. This means he received a special scholarship to study abroad. Sir Colville is a member of groups for teachers and language experts in the Caribbean.
Early Career and Public Service
In the 1960s, Sir Colville was part of a political group called the National Independence Party. He ran for a seat in the government in 1965 and 1969. However, he did not win those elections.
Later, he helped start the Liberal Party. This party eventually joined to form the United Democratic Party. Sir Colville then focused on improving education in Belize. He became the president of the University College of Belize in the late 1980s. This college is now part of the University of Belize. He also taught there.
A Love for Music and Books
Sir Colville loves music and has written many musical pieces. These include operas and cantatas. He has also published several books about Belizean literature. Some of his books are Literature and Education in Belize and Creole Proverbs of Belize. The book Creole Proverbs is very well-known.
In 1993, he published a book of short stories called Pataki Full. This book was praised by writers in Belize. His stories and plays have also appeared in other collections of Belizean writing.

Sir Colville Young became the Governor-General of Belize in 1993. This happened shortly after the United Democratic Party won the elections. As mentioned, he served for 28 years, which is the longest time for any governor-general in the Commonwealth.
He worked to build good relationships with leaders and countries around the world. He also played an active role in Belize's community. He especially focused on education and training teachers.
In 2017, some fake social media pages were made using his name. People were warned not to interact with these pages. All official messages from the Governor-General come from the Government of Belize Press Office.
Sir Colville retired as Governor-General on April 30, 2021. Froyla Tzalam took over his role on May 27, 2021.
Life Outside of Work
Sir Colville is married to Lady Norma Young. They have three sons and one daughter. He also has three siblings.
He is very interested in helping Belizean music grow. Sir Colville has worked hard to make sure music stays an important part of school education in Belize. His son, Colville Young Jr., leads the Belize National Youth Symphony.
Sir Colville is also helping to raise money to build a special hall for a chamber orchestra in Belize. He started the Governor General's Music in the Schools Programme. This program works with partners from other countries to bring more music into schools and provide musical instruments.
