Combat medic facts for kids
A combat medic is a special kind of soldier in the military who is trained to give medical help. Their main job is to treat sick or injured soldiers right on the battlefield during a fight.
Combat medics are protected by special international rules called the Geneva Conventions. These rules say that if a medic is clearly wearing medical signs and isn't carrying a weapon, no one should attack them. Attacking a medic on purpose is a very serious offense called a war crime. Even with these rules, some medics have been attacked. Because of this, many medics carry a pistol or a carbine (a type of rifle) to protect themselves and the soldiers they are helping.

History of Military Medics
Soldiers have needed medical help for a very long time. In ancient times, people would help wounded fighters on the battlefield. Over time, this role became more organized.
Early Examples

Modern Combat Medics
The role of the combat medic has changed a lot over the years. Today, medics get advanced training in emergency medicine. They use modern equipment and techniques to save lives. They are a vital part of any military force.
