What is Come Away Home About?
Annie Lamm, played by Jordan-Claire Green, plans to spend her summer in New York. But her parents, Carol (Lea Thompson) and Gary (Thomas Gibson), have other plans. They make her spend the summer with her grandfather Donald (Paul Dooley). He lives on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.
Annie is not happy about this change. She feels her summer is ruined. She even tries to sneak back to New York, but her plan doesn't work. One day, she almost drowns while on her grandfather's old boat. He rescues her, and this event changes her feelings.
After this, Annie starts to like her grandfather more. She also begins to appreciate the beautiful island where he lives. As summer ends, Annie learns something upsetting. Her parents want to move her grandfather into a retirement home. Annie must then try to convince them to change their minds.
