A Look Back in Time: Commercial Point's History
Commercial Point has an interesting past! Back in 1829, a man named Wiley H. Beckett moved here from Virginia. He started a community called Genoa in 1841. A few years later, in 1832, another Virginian named James H. Burnley arrived. He started his own community nearby called Rome. As both Genoa and Rome grew, they eventually joined together. In 1851, Genoa officially became a village, and Rome became part of it. The first store opened in 1844, started by Wiley H. Beckett. The local post office was even called Beckett's Store for a while! In 1872, the village's name was changed to Commercial Point.
