The History of the İskenderpaşa Community
The İskenderpaşa Community was started by a respected leader named Mehmed Zahid Kotku. He lived from 1897 to 1980. The community began when he became the imam (a prayer leader) at the İskender Pasha Mosque. This mosque is located in the Fatih area of Istanbul, a big city in Turkey.
The İskender Pasha Mosque itself has a long history. It was built a very long time ago by a powerful official called Grand Vizier Skender Pasha. He served an Ottoman Sultan named Bayezid II, who ruled between 1481 and 1512.
After Mehmed Zahid Kotku passed away, another leader named Mahmud Esad Coşan took his place. Later, Mahmud Esad Coşan's son, Muharrem Nureddin Coşan, became the leader of the İskenderpaşa Community.
