Compton is a small village in Illinois, United States. It is located in Lee County, within Brooklyn Township. In 2020, about 274 people lived there.

History of Compton
Compton started as a small community. It first had a post office on May 18, 1841. At that time, it was called Melugin Grove. This name came from Zachariah Melugin, who was the first person to settle there.
Later, on July 16, 1873, the village's name was changed to Compton. It was named after Joel Compton.
Geography of Compton
Compton is located on the wide, flat lands of north central Illinois. Two important roads, US Route 30 and US Route 51, serve the town. It is about ten miles north of the city of Mendota.
According to the 2010 census, Compton covers a total area of about 0.16 square miles (0.41 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
