History of Concord
Concord was an important stop for trains many years ago. In the mid-1800s, the Southside Railroad passed through this area. Over time, this railway became part of bigger systems. First, it was the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad in 1870. Later, it became a line in the Norfolk and Western Railway. Today, the Norfolk Southern Railway uses these tracks.
A notable person, Sylvia Trent-Adams, grew up on a farm in Concord. She became a high-ranking officer in the U.S. Public Health Service.
