The Coquille River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into Nicabau Lake. This river is located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, specifically in the Le Domaine-du-Roy area. It is an important part of the Ashuapmushuan Wildlife Reserve.
The main activities in this river valley are forestry and outdoor tourism. A secondary forest road helps people get to the upper part of the Coquille River valley. Also, Route 167 passes near the lower part of the river. The river is usually frozen from early November until mid-May, making it safe for ice travel from mid-November to mid-April.
About the Coquille River
The Coquille River starts from a lake called "Coquille Lake" in the Charron area. This lake is about 405 metres (1,329 ft) (1,329 feet) above sea level. The river then flows for about 20.5 kilometres (12.7 mi) (12.7 miles) before reaching its mouth.
The river's journey takes it through different areas. It flows southwest through marshy lands. It also crosses Pommelé Lake and Liasse Lake, which are widenings of the river itself. Finally, it flows into a bay on the northeast side of Nicabau Lake.
Where the River Flows
The Coquille River is part of a larger water system. After flowing into Nicabau Lake, its waters join the Normandin River. The Normandin River then flows into Ashuapmushuan Lake. From there, the water continues through the Ashuapmushuan River, which eventually reaches Lac Saint-Jean.
