Discovering Cordova's Past

How Cordova Got Its Name
The village was officially planned, or plattted, in 1887. This happened when the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad built tracks through the area. Soon after, the name Hunkins was changed to Cordova. This was done to avoid confusion with another post office in Nebraska that had a similar name. The new name, Cordova, comes from the city of Cordova, Spain. A post office has been operating in Cordova, Nebraska, since 1888.
