Corey Sanders (born March 7, 1975) is an American boxing trainer and former professional boxer. He was known by his cool nickname, "T-Rex." One of his most famous wins was a big surprise knockout against Oleg Maskaev in 2002. This win temporarily stopped Maskaev's plans to fight for a world title. Corey Sanders also fought other well-known boxers like Michael Grant and Andrew Golota. People often remember his exciting fight with Golota, where both boxers traded many strong punches. During this fight, Sanders got a deep cut above his left eye.
Early Life and School
Corey Sanders was born and grew up in Washington D.C.. He went to Theodore Roosevelt High School. There, he was a top player in football, earning an "All-City lineman" title. Sanders received many offers to play college football. However, he chose to stay home to care for his sick mother. He then attended Montgomery College.
Starting in Boxing
Sanders began boxing in 1993 when he was 18 years old. He had a very short time as an amateur boxer. Just one year later, in 1994, he decided to become a professional boxer.
Professional Boxing Career
Corey Sanders became widely known in late 2006. He took part in a series of exhibition matches against famous former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. These matches were part of a world tour. They were organized to help Mike Tyson with his finances. In these fights, Tyson did not wear headgear, but Sanders did. Tyson seemed to hold back his punches to make sure the show lasted longer.
Corey Sanders last fought in December 2007. He lost a six-round match to Dennis Bakhtov. This was his seventh loss in a row at the time. His professional boxing record shows he had 23 wins, with 15 of those by knockout. He also had 13 losses out of a total of 36 fights.
