Corinthian Pointe, Houston facts for kids
Corinthian Pointe is a large, planned neighborhood in Houston, Texas, USA. It is known for having many affordable homes. This community is part of a bigger development called Pointe 2.3.4 and is located within the 5 Corners District.
Corinthian Pointe is just outside the 610 Loop and inside Beltway 8, close to Reliant Park. It was created in the 2000s by Reverend Kirbyjon Caldwell of Windsor Village United Methodist Church, along with Pyramid Residential Community Corporation and Ryland Homes. The church is one of the largest United Methodist churches in the country. Reverend Caldwell said that Corinthian Pointe is the biggest neighborhood in Houston developed by a non-profit group.
The community covers about 220 acres (0.89 square kilometers). By the end of 2006, it had 462 homes. The whole project cost about 173 million United States dollars. According to Genora Boykins from Pyramid Residential Community Corporation, about 80% of the homes were considered "affordable" by the City of Houston.
Corinthian Pointe also has several important facilities nearby. These include the West Orem Family YMCA, the Kingdom Builders' Community Center (which has a church), the Zina Garrison Tennis Center, a living center for older adults, a children's medical clinic, and various shops.

History of Corinthian Pointe
Around the year 2000, Reverend Kirbyjon Caldwell had an idea to build a prayer chapel. He found a large piece of land, about 234 acres (95 hectares). The owners did not want to sell only a small part of it. So, a non-profit development group bought the entire area. This large plot of land became known as Pointe 2.3.4.
Corinthian Pointe officially opened in 2000. The first houses were finished that same year. Back then, an average house sold for about $80,000. Many low-income families were able to buy homes here. They often received help with their down payments from the City of Houston.
By April 2006, 451 homes had been built and sold. Another 11 homes were planned to be finished by the end of that year. The average selling price for a home in 2006 was about $106,000. A large number of these homes, about 80%, were sold at lower prices to families with less income. These prices ranged from $69,000 to $103,990. The remaining homes were sold for prices between $100,000 and $140,000.
George E. Johnson, Sr., who helped develop the community, noted that Corinthian Pointe's success encouraged other homebuilders. They started building on nearby land. Johnson explained that this area was "overlooked" before. He said it was close to downtown but had not seen much growth.
