Cosmo George Gordon, 3rd Duke of Gordon (born April 27, 1720 – died August 5, 1752) was an important Scottish nobleman. He held the title of Marquess of Huntly until 1728, when he became the Duke of Gordon. A "Duke" is one of the highest ranks in the nobility, and a "peer" is a member of this noble class.
Life of a Duke
Cosmo George Gordon was the son of Alexander Gordon, 2nd Duke of Gordon. He was named after a famous ruler, Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.
From 1747 to 1752, Duke Cosmo George served as a Scottish Representative Peer in the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the United Kingdom's Parliament. A Representative Peer was chosen to speak for Scottish nobles in the government.
In 1748, he received a special honor. He was made a Knight of the Thistle. This is a very old and important award in Scotland. It recognizes people who have done great things for their country.
