Coso Junction is a small, quiet community in Inyo County, California. It's not a big city with its own government, but rather an "unincorporated community." The name "Coso" comes from the Timbisha language and means "Fire Stone."

This community is found in a place called Rose Valley. It's about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) south of a town called Dunmovin. It's also 11.2 kilometers (7 miles) west of Sugarloaf Mountain. Coso Junction is close to a special place for the US Navy, the China Lake Weapons Station. The area is quite high up, at an elevation of 3,386 feet (1,032 meters).

Earthquakes and Floods

Coso Junction is in an area where the Earth's crust is quite active. This means that small earthquakes happen there often. Groups of these minor earthquakes were recorded in 1992, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2011.

Sometimes, heavy rains can cause floods. In 2010, floods happened near the community. These floods were strong enough to cause a traffic accident.
