Dwight Conroy Farrell (born August 25, 1973), known by his stage name Count Bass D, is an American rapper, record producer, and talented musician who can play many instruments. He is known for his unique style of making music. He often layers short sound clips from movies and other songs, and then adds his own live instruments and clever lyrics.

Early Life and Musical Start

Dwight Farrell was born in The Bronx, New York, and grew up there and in Canton, Ohio. His musical journey began when he was only four years old. His father, a minister, encouraged him to play music in their church.

This early start helped him learn to play the piano, organ, drums, and bass guitar. As he got older, he became interested in hip-hop music and practiced rapping with his friends, getting better and better at writing rhymes.

When he was a teenager, Farrell went to Middle Tennessee State University. He used the university's music equipment to record his first demo tape, which is a collection of songs used to show a musician's talent to record companies.

Music Career

Getting Started

Farrell's demo tape was a success and helped him get a record deal with Chaos Recordings. In 1995, he released his first album, Pre-Life Crisis. However, the record label found it hard to promote the album, and they decided to part ways with him.

Not giving up, Farrell released his first EP (a short album) called Art for Sale in 1997 on a smaller, independent label.

Finding His Sound

In 2002, Farrell wanted to create an album with a stronger hip-hop feel. He got new equipment, including a sampler and a drum machine, which allowed him to create new and interesting sounds.

With these tools, he made his second album, Dwight Spitz. This album became very popular with critics and fans. It featured other famous independent rappers like MF Doom and Edan. Farrell later worked with MF Doom again, producing the track "Potholderz" for the album MM..Food in 2004.

Over the years, Count Bass D has continued to release music and work with other artists.

  • In 2006, he released his third album, Act Your Waist Size.

  • In 2010, he worked with his friend DJ Pocket to release two albums, In the Loop and Activity.
