Where is Courtois Located?
You can find Courtois about 12 miles (19 km) southwest of a place called Belgrade, Missouri. It's also about 3.9 miles (6.3 km) northeast of Viburnum, Missouri, which is in a different county called Iron County, Missouri.
Courtois is right on Missouri Route C, a local road. It's also special because it's where two creeks meet. This meeting point is called a "confluence." The two creeks are Indian Creek and Courtois Creek.
How Courtois Got Its Name
The community of Courtois, and the nearby Courtois Creek, are both named after a person. We don't know exactly who this settler was.
The name "Courtois" can be tricky to say! Locally, people often pronounce it like "Cur-toys." You might also hear the creek's name pronounced and sometimes even written as "Coataway" or "Cotoway."

Courtois once had its own post office. This post office was opened way back in 1886. However, it is no longer open today. If you live in Courtois now, your mail is delivered from nearby towns. It usually comes from either Steelville or Belgrade.
