Cow and Chicken is a funny animated series created by David Feiss for Cartoon Network. It was one of the first original shows on the network. The show follows the very unusual adventures of two animal siblings, Cow and Chicken. They often get into silly situations with their enemy, the Red Guy. He is a cartoon Devil-like character who often pretends to be other people to trick them.
The idea for Cow and Chicken first appeared as a short cartoon on a show called What a Cartoon!. People liked it so much that Hanna-Barbera decided to make it into a full series. The first episode aired on July 15, 1997. At first, Cow and Chicken episodes included another cartoon called I Am Weasel. Later, I Am Weasel became its own separate show in 1999.
Contents
Meet Cow and Chicken
The show is all about the funny problems of two very different siblings. There's Cow, who is a sweet, happy, and sometimes silly 7-year-old. Her older brother is Chicken, an 11-year-old who is a bit more cynical and grumpy. Both characters are voiced by Charlie Adler.
Their main enemy is the Red Guy, also voiced by Charlie Adler. He is a loud and colorful character who always wears different disguises. He tries to trick Cow and Chicken in many funny ways.
Supporting Characters
Other characters in the show include Cow and Chicken's human parents, Mom and Dad. You only ever see their legs! They are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker and Candi Milo. Chicken's best friends are Flem and Earl. Cow also has her favorite dolls: Crabs the Warthog, Piles the Beaver, and Manure the Bear.
What Makes it Funny?
The show uses a lot of silly and over-the-top humor. For example, Cow and Chicken often order "pork butts and taters" at school. The Red Guy often shows his backside for laughs. Characters also use funny words or say things in a sarcastic way. The humor often comes from common childhood worries, like having "cooties" or being scared to go into the wrong restroom. The show takes these simple ideas and makes them super funny.
Episodes and Spin-offs
Cow and Chicken had a total of 52 episodes over 3 seasons. These episodes were made between July 1997 and July 1999. Each half-hour episode usually had two Cow and Chicken stories. It also included one story from I Am Weasel.
I Am Weasel started as a part of Cow and Chicken. But it became so popular that it got its own show on June 10, 1999. Usually, an episode would show two seven-minute Cow and Chicken cartoons first. Then, a seven-minute I Am Weasel cartoon would play before the end credits.
