Coyote Lake is a beautiful lake found in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, United States. It's a special type of lake called a glacial lake, which means it was formed by a glacier long ago. The lake is quite small, about 200 yards long and 150 yards wide.

Coyote Lake sits high up in the mountains, at an elevation of over 10,200 feet above sea level. It's surrounded by tall, unnamed peaks that reach almost 11,000 feet. These peaks form a bowl-shaped area around the lake, known as a cirque.

Exploring Coyote Lake

Coyote Lake is located about 0.70 miles north-northwest of Mount Hunt. Getting to the lake can be a bit of an adventure!

How to Reach the Lake

You can start your journey to Coyote Lake from the Open Canyon Trail. However, once you're on the trail, you'll need to leave the marked path. This means you'll have to navigate off-trail to find the lake. It's important to be prepared for this kind of hiking.

Camping Near Coyote Lake

If you're looking to camp, there's a camping area on the east side of Coyote Lake. This spot is across from a place called Coyote Lake Lodge. To get to this camping area, you usually approach it from the west side of the lake. It's roughly opposite the face of Mount Hunt.

Lake Shore Features

The west side of Coyote Lake is mostly low and sandy. There isn't much shade there, which can make hiking on that side a bit challenging. The east side, where the camping area is, offers a different experience.
