The crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) is a type of wild dog, also known as a canid. It has a few other names like the forest fox, wood fox, bushdog, or maikong. This interesting animal lives only in the central part of South America.
Where the Crab-Eating Fox Lives
The crab-eating fox can be found in many different places, called habitats. It likes areas such as savannas (grassy plains with scattered trees), woodlands (areas with many trees), and subtropical forests. You might also find it in prickly, bushy areas or tropical savannas.
It lives in countries like Colombia and southern Venezuela. Its home also stretches down to Uruguay and northern Argentina. These foxes often live near rivers, in wooded areas along the riverbanks. They are quite adaptable and can live in almost any habitat in South America. However, they usually avoid very dense rainforests, high mountains, and wide-open grassy savannas.
