In 2002, Craig achieved a big win. He earned a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. This was in the under 60kg weight category.

Becoming a World and European Champion

September 2005 was a huge moment for Craig. He won the -60 kg weight class at the 2005 World Judo Championships in Cairo. He beat Ludwig Paischer in the final match. This made him only the third British male to win a world judo title. The others were Neil Adams in 1981 and Graeme Randall in 1999.

The next year, in 2006, Craig continued his winning streak. He became the European champion in Tampere, Finland. He won in the -60 kg weight category, defeating Armen Nazaryan. This meant he was only the second British male judoka, after Neil Adams, to hold both a World and European title at the same time.
