Cranberry Lake (Nova Scotia) facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Cranberry Lake is a name given to many different lakes and even some brooks in Nova Scotia, Canada. It's quite common to find several places with the same name, especially for natural features like lakes. This happens because people often name places after things they see nearby, like plants or animals.

In Nova Scotia, cranberries are small, tart red berries that grow in wet areas, often near lakes and bogs. This is why so many lakes in the province share the name "Cranberry Lake"!

Why So Many Cranberry Lakes?

Nova Scotia is a province known for its beautiful natural landscapes, including thousands of lakes and rivers. Many of these lakes are quite small. When settlers arrived, they often named these natural features based on what they found there. If cranberries were growing abundantly around a lake, it made sense to call it Cranberry Lake.
