The Craugastor inachus is a special kind of frog. It belongs to a family of frogs called Craugastoridae. This frog was first described by scientists Campbell and Savage in the year 2000.
This unique frog lives only in one place: Guatemala. When an animal or plant lives only in one specific area, we say it is endemic to that place.
Where Does This Frog Live?
The Craugastor inachus frog loves certain kinds of places. Its natural habitats are warm, dry forests. These are often called subtropical or tropical dry forests. It also likes to live near rivers. Rivers provide the water and moisture these frogs need to survive.
Why Is This Frog in Danger?
Sadly, the Craugastor inachus frog is facing a big problem. It is currently listed as "Critically Endangered." This means it is at a very high risk of disappearing forever. The main reason for this danger is habitat loss.
What Is Habitat Loss?
Habitat loss happens when the places animals live are destroyed or changed. For the Craugastor inachus frog, this means its forests and rivers are shrinking. People might cut down trees for wood or to make space for farms and buildings. Pollution can also harm rivers. When their homes disappear, these frogs struggle to find food, shelter, and places to lay their eggs. This makes it very hard for them to survive and have babies.
Scientists and conservation groups are working to protect these special frogs. They hope to save their habitats so the Craugastor inachus can continue to thrive in Guatemala.
