Creelsboro is a historic place in Russell County, Kentucky, United States. It is sometimes called a "ghost town" because its population has become very small. The town was named after Elijah Creel, one of the first people to settle there.

A Busy River Port

Creelsboro was once a very important place. In the 1800s, it was a busy trading center. This was because it was located right on the Cumberland River. The river was like a highway for boats back then.

River Trade and Services

Even though only about 50 people lived in Creelsboro, it was a hub of activity. It was the busiest river port between Nashville, Tennessee, and Burnside, Kentucky. Many steamboats stopped here.

The town had everything travelers and traders needed. There was a bank to handle money. A school taught the children. Three stores sold goods, and an inn offered a place to stay for steamboat passengers.

Why Creelsboro Changed

In the 1930s, things started to change for Creelsboro. New highways were built. These roads made it easier and faster to move goods by truck. People stopped using steamboats as much.

When steamboats stopped coming, Creelsboro lost its main way of making money. The town became much quieter. Many businesses closed down.

Creelsboro Today

Today, Creelsboro is a peaceful place. The people who live there mostly work in farming. It's also a popular spot for visitors who love nature.

Outdoor Activities

The Cumberland River near Creelsboro is famous for trout fishing. Many people come here to enjoy the quiet waters.

Natural Wonders
