The Crim Rocks (which means "little reef" in the Cornish language, Cornish: Kribyn) are a small group of islands in the Isles of Scilly, England, United Kingdom. No one lives on these islands.
These rocks are special because they are the very most western point of England! They are part of a larger group called the Western Rocks.
Where are the Crim Rocks?
The Crim Rocks are located in the beautiful Isles of Scilly, which are off the coast of Cornwall in England. They are about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Bishop Rock. They are also about 0.25 miles (0.4 km) southwest of another rock called Zantman's Rock.
The most famous part of the Crim Rocks is called the Peaked Rock. It stands out and is easy to spot.
What's in a Name?
The name "Crim" might come from an old Welsh word, "crimp." This word means "shin," "ridge," or "ledge." This makes sense because the Crim Rocks are like rocky ridges sticking out of the sea.
Dangerous Waters: Shipwrecks
Even though they are small, the Crim Rocks have been very dangerous for ships over the years. Because they are hidden and in a busy shipping area, at least thirty ships have been wrecked on these rocks. This shows how important it is for sailors to be careful when navigating near them!
