Manucodia chalybatus

The crinkle-collared manucode (Manucodia chalybatus) is a special type of bird of paradise. These beautiful birds are known for their amazing colors and unique calls. The crinkle-collared manucode can grow up to 36 centimeters long, which is about the size of a ruler.

It has shiny feathers that look greenish-blue, black, and purple. Its long tail adds to its elegant look. This bird also has bright red eyes and cool, shimmery green feathers on its chest. These chest feathers can look different colors depending on how the light hits them!

Where They Live

The crinkle-collared manucode lives in the lowland and hill forests. You can find them in the main part of New Guinea. They also live on Misool Island, which is part of West Papua.

Forest Homes

These birds prefer forests that are not too high up in the mountains. They like places where there are plenty of trees. These trees provide both food and safe places to live.

What They Eat

Crinkle-collared manucodes mainly eat fruits. They especially love to eat figs. Figs are a very important part of their diet.

Food Sources

Finding food is a big part of their day. They fly through the forest looking for ripe fruits. Their diet helps spread seeds around the forest. This helps new plants grow.

How They Look Similar

This bird looks a little like the Jobi manucode. Both birds share some similar features. However, the crinkle-collared manucode has its own unique look. Its special "crinkled" collar feathers make it stand out.
