Crown is a small, unincorporated community in Isanti County, Minnesota, United States. It's a place where people live and work, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Crown is located north of the city of St. Francis.
Two important local roads, Isanti County Roads 7 and 8, pass through the community. Larger highways like State Highway 47 and U.S. Highway 169 are also nearby.
History of Crown
Crown was started in the late 1800s. Many German immigrant families moved here to create a farming community. Some of the first families to settle in the area had names like Grams, Whittlef, Stoeckel, Lemke, Hartfiel, and Hass. One of the founders was Frederick Wilhelm Grams, who was born in Germany and came to the USA.
In its early days, Crown had several important businesses. There was a creamery, which made dairy products, and three stores that also had bars. The community also had a blacksmith shop, where metal items were made and repaired, and a garage for fixing cars. A German Lutheran Church and a Lutheran School were also part of the community.
The Lemke family owned the main community store for a very long time, from 1905 until 2005. After they sold it, the store was renamed "Crown Gas and Goodies."
In 2008, a fire damaged a building that used to be a general store and bar. This building was rebuilt and reopened in January 2013. Today, Crown is still a small community. It mainly has a store, a local gathering place, and the Zion Lutheran Church and School, which is located about a mile north of the main area.
