Crown Point is a famous viewpoint in Oregon, USA. It's also known as Thor's Heights or Thor's Crown. This amazing spot is a rocky cliff that overlooks the Columbia River Gorge.
You can find Crown Point in eastern Multnomah County. It's about 15 miles (24 km) east of Portland. Crown Point is a popular stop along the Historic Columbia River Highway. It offers incredible views of the Columbia River.
The point stands 733 feet (223 meters) above the river. It was formed millions of years ago. It's what's left of an ancient lava flow. This lava filled the old path of the Columbia River. In 1971, Crown Point was named a National Natural Landmark. This means it's a very special natural place.
Vista House
The Vista House is a unique building at Crown Point. It works as an observatory, where you can look out at the views. It also honors the brave Oregon pioneers. Plus, it's a place for travelers to rest.
This building sits right on the rocky edge of Crown Point. It's 733 feet (223 meters) above the Columbia River. The Vista House was designed to fit perfectly with the beautiful Columbia River Gorge scenery. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical building.
