Crumbl is a popular chain of bakeries in the United States and Canada. It is famous for its delicious cookies and other sweet treats. The company started in Utah in 2017. As of August 2024, Crumbl had 1071 stores across the United States. The company is very active on social media, which has helped it grow quickly.

How Crumbl Started and Grew

The Beginning of Crumbl Cookies

Crumbl was started by two cousins, Sawyer Hemsley and Jason McGowan, in 2017. Sawyer was a student at Utah State University in Logan, Utah at the time. They worked hard to create the perfect milk chocolate chip cookie recipe. They even used a special method called A/B testing to find out what people liked best.

Changes and New Ideas

In November 2023, Crumbl updated its look. They got a new logo, new colors, and a fresh new style. This helped them keep their brand exciting and modern.

In December 2023, Crumbl bought a pie company called Crust Club. It was founded in 2016 by Tyler and Valerie Kukahiko. The founders of Crumbl, Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley, really liked Crust Club's idea. Later, Crust Club was sold back to a company owned by Sawyer Hemsley.

Expanding to New Places

Crumbl has grown very fast, especially because of its strong presence on social media. The company gained a huge following on TikTok, reaching 1.6 million followers in just six weeks in early 2021. By 2024, Crumbl had over 14 million followers combined on TikTok and Instagram.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Crumbl continued to expand. By August 2020, they had 100 locations. By July 2021, this number grew to 149 stores across the United States. By the end of 2021, there were over 300 Crumbl stores. By July 2022, they had more than 400 locations in 45 states.

In 2023, Crumbl opened its first stores in Canada. They opened four locations: two in Alberta, one in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and one in Mississauga, Ontario. By July 2025, Crumbl had more than 1,000 stores across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Crumbl's Future in Australia

On September 29, 2024, an unofficial Crumbl pop-up store opened in Sydney, Australia. People bought about 840 cookies that had been brought from Hawaii. They were sold for about AUD$17.50 (US$12) each. Crumbl decided not to take legal action against this unofficial event. Instead, they announced that they would speed up their plans to open official stores in Australia soon.

Important Company Matters

Working Conditions and Rules

In December 2022, the U. S. Department of Labor looked into some Crumbl stores. They found that 11 Crumbl locations in six different states had not followed rules about young workers. These rules are in place to keep young people safe at work. The issues included young employees working too many hours or doing tasks that could be dangerous, like using certain ovens or machines.

Crumbl's main company said they were very sorry about these problems. They promised to make sure all their stores provide a safe and welcoming place to work. The stores that broke the rules had to pay fines totaling $57,854.

Disagreements with Other Companies

In 2022, Crumbl had some disagreements with two other cookie companies, Crave Cookies and Dirty Dough. Crumbl believed these companies had similar business ideas and marketing styles.

In 2025, a music company called Warner Music Group had a disagreement with Crumbl. They said Crumbl had used their music in social media posts without permission.

Animal Welfare Concerns

Some groups that care about animal welfare, like The Humane League, have asked Crumbl to stop using eggs from chickens kept in small cages. These groups want Crumbl to use only cage-free eggs in all their locations. Crumbl stated that they did not plan to make a cage-free policy at that time. Because of this, these groups continued their efforts into 2025.
