Crystal was once a small community in Clark County, Nevada, in the United States. It was located along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. In 1941, only about 10 people lived there. Today, the spot where Crystal used to be is a rest stop for travelers on the highway.

Where is Crystal Located?

Crystal is found in the state of Nevada. It is in Clark County, which is the same county as the famous city of Las Vegas. You can find Crystal northeast of Las Vegas.

Crystal and the Highway

The former community of Crystal is right along Interstate I-15. This is a major highway that runs through Nevada. You can find it specifically at Exit 75. Long ago, this area was part of the Nevada State Route 40 highway.

An Enclave Community

Crystal is also special because it is an enclave. This means it is a small area completely surrounded by another territory. In Crystal's case, it is surrounded by the Moapa River Indian Reservation.

Why Was it Called Crystal?

The community of Crystal got its name from the shiny, clear crystal rocks found nearby. These crystals were present around the original town site.

What is a Ghost Town?

Crystal is sometimes called a ghost town. A ghost town is a place that used to be a lively community but is now mostly empty. People often leave ghost towns because jobs disappear, resources run out, or new roads bypass them. Crystal became a ghost town as its population dwindled over time.
