What Crystal Geyser Makes
Besides sparkling water, Crystal Geyser also makes ready-to-drink teas. These teas are sold under the name Tejava. They are made in Bakersfield, California.
Company History
Crystal Geyser was founded in 1977. In 1990, Otsuka Holdings Co. Ltd., a large Japanese company, bought Crystal Geyser.
Around 2014, Crystal Geyser planned to bottle water from an underground water source, called an aquifer, near Mount Shasta, California. However, many people living nearby were worried about how this might affect the environment.
In August 2019, a court in Siskiyou County, California looked at a case about the company's plant. An environmental group and a Native American tribe had concerns. They thought the plant might harm the environment. The court decided to dismiss the case. This meant the plant could continue its operations.
Where the Water Comes From
Crystal Geyser Water Company gets its water from special underground sources. These sources are naturally protected.
- Mineral water comes from underground. It naturally has at least 250 parts per million (ppm) of dissolved minerals.
- Spring water flows to the surface on its own. It is only called mineral water if it also has at least 250 ppm of dissolved minerals.
Crystal Geyser and CG Roxane
It can be a bit confusing, but Crystal Geyser Water Company is different from CG Roxane. Even though CG Roxane sells bottled water with "Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water" on the label, they are separate companies.
Both companies are connected to the same Japanese company, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. owns part of Alma S.A., which is the main company for CG Roxane.
CG Roxane started in 1990. It only makes plain, non-sparkling water. They have bottling plants in places like Weed, California, and Olancha, California. The plant in Olancha even bottles water for people in Japan. CG Roxane also supplies water to stores in the United States, including Trader Joe's.
