A Look at Cuevas's Past

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This happened under the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This made Puerto Rico an "unincorporated territory" of the U.S. This means it is part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a state.

In 1899, the United States government counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that only 688 people lived in Cuevas barrio at that time. The population has grown a lot since then!
