Culleoka is a small, unincorporated community in the southeastern part of Maury County, Tennessee, United States. It is located southeast of the city of Columbia. In 2010, about 4,964 people lived there. By 2016, the estimated population grew slightly to 5,078 residents.

The name Culleoka comes from a Native American word. It means 'Sweet Water'. Culleoka was started in 1857. This was because people expected a railroad to be built there soon. The Nashville and Decatur Railroad reached the area in 1859. Culleoka was also the first home of the Webb School. This famous school is now located in the historic town of Bell Buckle.

History of Culleoka

Culleoka's history is closely tied to the railroad. When the Nashville and Decatur Railroad was planned, it brought new life to the area. The community was established in 1857. This was just two years before the railroad arrived. The railroad helped Culleoka grow. It connected the community to larger towns and cities.

The Webb School was a very important part of Culleoka's early history. It was founded in 1870 by William R. Webb. The school was known for its strong academic programs. It attracted students from all over the region. Even though the school later moved, its beginnings are still a key part of Culleoka's story.
