Culver's Lake, once known as Round Pond, is a beautiful lake in Frankford Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. This lake gets its water from Lake Owassa and Bear Swamp. It is also the starting point for the West Branch of the Paulins Kill river, which is sometimes called "Culver Brook".
For many years, especially in the late 1800s and early 1900s, people visited Culver's Lake for fun activities during different seasons. Today, it is a private community where people live all year round. The Normanoch Association, a group of homeowners, owns and manages the lake and its surroundings.

Culver's Lake covers about 555 acres (225 ha) of land. Its shoreline stretches for roughly six and a half miles. The deepest part of the lake is about 50 feet (15 m) deep. The lake sits 830 feet (250 m) above sea level.
You can find Culver's Lake near a special spot called the Culver Gap. This is a "wind gap" in the Kittatinny Mountain. It's also where the famous Appalachian Trail crosses U.S. Route 206.
Who Was Jabez Collver?
The lake is named after a local religious leader, Reverend Jabez Collver (1731-1818). He was a minister at the Congregational Church in Wantage Township, New Jersey.
On September 14, 1774, Reverend Collver bought 163 acres of land. This land was located east of Kittatinny Mountain, close to the lake. After the American Revolution, Reverend Collver moved to Ontario, Canada. He left because he had supported the British during the war.
