Cummingsville is a small, unincorporated community located in Olmsted County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. An unincorporated community is a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
The Story of Cummingsville
The community of Cummingsville was named after its founder, a person named Francis H. Cummings. He started this community way back in 1855.
When it was first founded, Cummingsville had an important sawmill. This mill was built right next to the Root River, which provided the power needed to cut wood. Sawmills were very important in the early days for building homes and other structures.
By the year 1920, Cummingsville was no longer considered an active village. It became known as a "former village," meaning it had once been a more organized settlement but had changed over time.
