The Curly Wurly is a fun and chewy chocolate bar made by Cadbury. It was first sold in the UK in 1970. This candy bar has a special shape that looks like three flat, twisted strings. It's made of yummy caramel covered in chocolate.

How Curly Wurly Was Made

The unique design of the Curly Wurly was created by a person named David John Parfitt. He was a research confectioner, which means he worked on making new candies at the Cadbury factory in Bournville. He came up with the idea while playing around with some extra toffee he had from another project. The Curly Wurly was officially launched in 1970.

Other Similar Candies

When Curly Wurly became popular, other candy companies also tried to make similar treats. They wanted to compete with Cadbury or offer their own version of a long, chewy caramel bar.

Mars' Versions

The company Mars made a few similar candies:

  • In Europe, Mars launched a bar called "3 Musketeers" in 1972. This was different from the "3 Musketeers" bar sold in the U.S., which doesn't have caramel.
  • In the U.S., Mars sold a bar called "Marathon" from 1973 to 1981. It had bright red packaging and even had a ruler printed on the back to show it was 8 inches (20 cm) long!

Other Companies

  • In Canada, a company called Mackintosh's made a similar product in the 1970s called the "Wig Wag".
  • In Sweden, a candy called "Loop" was released in 2011 by the brand Marabou, which is owned by Kraft.
