Curtis Lynn Collier (born October 4, 1949) is a very important judge in the United States. He is a senior United States district judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. This means he works in a special court that handles federal laws in eastern Tennessee.

Early Life and Education

Curtis Lynn Collier was born in Marianna, Arkansas, in 1949. He worked hard in school. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University in 1971. A Bachelor of Science is a type of college degree.

After that, he went to law school. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Duke University School of Law in 1974. A Juris Doctor is the degree you need to become a lawyer.

A Career in Law

After finishing law school, Curtis Collier joined the United States Air Force. He served from 1974 to 1979. While in the Air Force, he was a lawyer. He worked in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps. This group provides legal services for the Air Force. He held the rank of Captain.

After his time in the Air Force, he became an Assistant United States Attorney. This job means he worked for the government as a lawyer. He helped to bring cases against people who broke federal laws. He worked in Louisiana from 1979 to 1987. Then, he moved to eastern Tennessee and continued this job until 1995.

Becoming a Federal Judge

In 1995, President Bill Clinton chose Curtis Collier to become a United States district judge. This was for a new judge position in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

To become a judge, the United States Senate had to approve him. They confirmed his appointment on May 8, 1995. He officially started his job as a judge on May 10, 1995.
