History of Cushing
Cushing got its name from L. Cushing Kimball. He was the brother of an important railroad official. A post office first opened in Cushing in 1883.

Schools in Cushing
The River Valley Community School District is in charge of the public schools that serve Cushing. This school district was created in 1996. It formed when the Eastwood Community School District and the Willow Community School District joined together. Before that, the Eastwood district was formed in 1966 by combining the Correctionville and Cushing school districts.
