Cushing Falls is a small but interesting waterfall in Oregon, USA. It is located near the Columbia River, just east of a city called The Dalles. This waterfall is in Wasco County.
Cushing Falls is about 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. It flows along a stream called Fifteenmile Creek. The area around the waterfall is drier than other parts of the Columbia Gorge. This is because of a special weather effect.
Where is Cushing Falls Located?
Cushing Falls is found in a unique spot. The water here, along with Petersburg Falls further upstream, is in a "rain shadow" area. This means it gets much less rain than places closer to the Pacific Ocean.
The rain shadow effect happens on the eastern side of the Columbia Gorge. Mountains block the rain clouds, making the air drier. This creates a different kind of natural environment around the falls.
How to Find the Waterfall
You can reach Cushing Falls by following a trail. This trail starts off the left side of SE Frontage Road. It leads you to this hidden gem.
