About Custer

Custer got its name from a famous U.S. Army General, George Armstrong Custer. He was involved in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, which happened not far from here.

The community started as a station for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1882. A post office was set up in Custer in 1905. Custer is also known as a "Census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area defined by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting population data.
