History of Cylinder
Cylinder started as a small settlement in 1885. It began when a large barn was built to store hay. Soon after, a special railway track was added to help load the hay onto trains.
In 1890, a railway station was built, and the town slowly grew. Cylinder officially became a city in 1900. The railway station was named after a nearby stream called Cylinder Creek. People say the creek got its name because early settlers might have dropped a train engine into the mud there and never found it again!
