Cyperus concinnus, also known as the trim flat-sedge, is a type of grass-like plant called a sedge. It belongs to the Cyperaceae family, which includes many different sedges. This plant is originally from Australia and can be found in several parts of the country, including New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia.
What it Looks Like
The trim flat-sedge is a plant that lives for many years, which means it's a perennial. It grows from special underground stems called rhizomes, which help it spread. This sedge usually grows to be about 0.2 to 0.8 meters (or 8 inches to 2.6 feet) tall. When it blooms, it produces small, brown flowers.
Where it Lives
In Western Australia, you can often find the trim flat-sedge growing in wet places. It likes swamps, areas around creeks, and near pools of water. It grows well in sandy-clay soils in regions like the Mid West, Pilbara, and Goldfields-Esperance.
How it Got its Name
The trim flat-sedge was first officially described in the year 1810. It was named by a famous botanist (a scientist who studies plants) named Robert Brown.
