Harry Cyril Delevanti (born February 23, 1889 – died December 13, 1975) was an English actor who had a very long career in American movies. He often played interesting and unique characters. Sometimes, his name was spelled as Syril Delevanti in movie credits.

Early Life

Cyril Delevanti was born in London, England. His father, Edward Delevanti, was a music professor with both English and Italian family roots. His mother was Mary Elizabeth.

Acting Career

Cyril Delevanti started his acting career on stage in England. In 1921, he moved to the United States and continued acting in plays throughout the 1920s.

His first movie role was in Devotion in 1931. In 1938, he appeared in Red Barry, a movie series directed by Ford Beebe. Ford Beebe later married Cyril's daughter, Kitty.

From the 1940s onwards, Cyril Delevanti appeared in many movies, often in smaller roles. Some of these films include:

In 1958, Cyril Delevanti played Lucius Coin, a printer, in all 26 episodes of the TV show Jefferson Drum. He also appeared twice on the popular TV show Perry Mason. In 1957, he played a florist named Mr. Tulloch. In 1965, he played a bookie named Craig Jefferson.

In 1913, Cyril Delevanti married Eva Kitty Peel. They had three children together: Kitty, Cyril, and Harry. For a while in the early 1950s, they owned and ran a toy shop in the Los Angeles area.

Cyril Delevanti passed away on December 13, 1975, in Hollywood, California. He was 86 years old.
