History of DC Shoes
How DC Shoes Started
The company was founded in June 1994. It was started by three friends: Damon Way, Ken Block, and Clayton Blehm. DC Shoes first began in Carlsbad, California. Today, its main office is in Huntington Beach, California.
The name DC originally stood for "Droors Clothing." However, after Droors Clothing was sold, the company became known simply as DC Shoes, Inc. It no longer has any connection to Droors Clothing.
Changes Over the Years
On March 8, 2004, another company called Quiksilver bought DC Shoes. This deal was worth $87 million. In 2010, DC Shoes moved its offices. It joined Quiksilver's main headquarters in Huntington Beach.
In 2010, a video called Skateboarding Is Forever was released online. It showed many talented skateboarders. Most of these skateboarders were still sponsored by DC Shoes in 2013. They have since become professional skateboarders.
New Look and Team
In 2011, DC Shoes updated its brand. This included designing a new flag logo. As part of this change, new skateboarders joined the team. These announcements were made over time. A series of online advertisements were also released. These ads were directed by new team member Steve Berra.
Other new team members included Mikey Taylor, Mike Mo Capaldi, Nyjah Huston, Chris Cole, and Davis Torgerson. Felipe Gustavo joined the team a bit later.
A new campaign called "Rediscovery" began in December 2011. This followed the addition of Capaldi and Huston to the skateboard team.
Sadly, co-founder Ken Block passed away in January 2023. He was in a snowmobile accident.
