Nyjah Imani Huston (born November 30, 1994) is an American professional skateboarder. Thanks to his many sponsorships and prize money from competitions, he is one of the highest-paid skateboarders in the world. Many people think he is one of the greatest skateboarders ever, especially in street competitions.

Huston has an amazing record of wins. He won gold medals at the SLS Super Crown World Championship six times between 2010 and 2024. He has also won 15 gold medals at the X Games since 2011. In 2024, he won his first Olympic medal, a bronze, at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Early Life and Start in Skating

Nyjah Huston was born in Davis, California. He was raised in a strict Rastafarian household. His family followed a vegan diet, and he and his siblings were homeschooled by their mother, Kelle.

His father, Adeyemi, was also a skateboarder and had Nyjah start skating at just five years old. To help him practice, his parents bought an indoor skate park in 2004. In 2006, the family moved to Puerto Rico. This caused some issues with his sponsor, Element Skateboards, because he couldn't attend events.

While in Puerto Rico, his parents separated. His mother and siblings moved back to California. Huston stayed with his father for a year before moving back to live with his mother.

Skateboarding Career

Huston's career is filled with big wins, famous video parts, and major sponsorships. He is known for his incredible technical skill and style.

Getting Started

Huston first got noticed after winning the Tampa Am street contest in 2005. This led to a sponsorship deal with Element Skateboards. He appeared in several of their videos, like the Elementality series.

In 2009, Huston left Element to start his own skateboard company called I&I. The company's style was inspired by Rastafari culture. I&I was a small company that lasted for about two years.

Rise to the Top

After closing I&I, Huston returned to Element in 2011. He released a solo video called Rise & Shine, which won "Best Video Part" from Transworld Skateboarding magazine. Around this time, he also signed a major shoe sponsorship with DC Shoes.

Other pro skaters were impressed by his talent. Josh Kalis from DC Shoes noted that Huston was so dedicated that he would buy DC shoes from skate shops before he was even sponsored by them. Fellow skater Mike Mo Capaldi said Huston was "probably the best skateboarder I've ever seen."

In 2013, DC Shoes released Huston's first signature shoe. By this time, he had won more prize money than any other skateboarder in history.

A Decade of Dominance

From 2010 to 2020, Huston was a powerhouse in skateboarding. He finished in the top two at the Street Skateboarding World Championships every single year. During that time, he won six gold medals and four silver medals.

His success in competitions like the X Games, where he has won 12 gold medals in street events, has made him very wealthy. As of 2022, his net worth was estimated at $12 million.

Olympic Journey

Skateboarding became an Olympic sport for the first time at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Huston qualified for the U.S. team and made it to the final. He finished in seventh place.

He returned for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This time, he performed well and won the bronze medal, his first-ever Olympic medal.

Current Sponsors and Brand

As of 2021, Huston is sponsored by many top brands, including:

In June 2021, Huston launched his own skateboard company called Disorder Skateboards.

Awards and Recognition

Huston has won many awards for his skateboarding. In 2012, he won three awards at the Transworld SKATEboarding awards:

  • Best Video Part (for Rise & Shine)
  • New Era Readers' Choice
  • Best Street

He has also been nominated multiple times for the "Skater of the Year" award by Thrasher Magazine, one of the highest honors in skateboarding.

Video Game Appearances

Huston's fame has led him to be a character in several popular video games. You can play as him in:

  • Tony Hawk's Project 8
  • Tony Hawk's Proving Ground
  • Tony Hawk: Ride
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4

He also worked with the company Play'n GO to create his own game called Nyjah Huston Skate for Gold.

Charity Work

In 2008, Huston and his mother started a charity called Let It Flow. The organization's goal was to bring clean and safe drinking water to communities in need. They were inspired by their time in Puerto Rico.

Let It Flow built new water wells, repaired broken ones, and set up sanitation stations in places like Ethiopia. The charity appears to no longer be active.

Personal Life

After reconnecting with his mother, Huston said he had disagreements with his father. He no longer follows a strict Rastafarian lifestyle and has said that hip hop is his favorite type of music.

As of December 2019, Huston lives in Laguna Beach, California.
