Aldrin Davis (born August 2, 1969), known by his stage name DJ Toomp, is an American record producer, songwriter, and DJ. He is a major figure in the world of hip hop, especially in creating the sound of trap music.

Davis started his music career very early. In 1985, when he was just 16, he produced a record for the Atlanta MC Raheem the Dream. This was the beginning of a long and successful journey in music.

Career Beginnings

Early Tours and Collaborations

In the late 1980s, DJ Toomp became the official DJ for the rapper MC Shy-D. He toured across the United States with MC Shy-D and the group 2 Live Crew. On these tours, they performed alongside some of the biggest names in hip hop at the time, including N.W.A. and Ice-T.

After his time with MC Shy-D, Toomp worked as a DJ for JT Money and the group Poison Clan. Later, in the early 1990s, he formed a duo with Brother Marquis, a former member of the 2 Live Crew. Together, they released an album in 1993.

In 2006, Davis started his own record label called NZone Entertainment with his partner, Bernard Parks, Jr.

Rise to Fame

Working with T.I.

DJ Toomp became widely known for his work with the rapper T.I., who is also from Atlanta. Their partnership began with T.I.'s first album, I'm Serious, in 2001. They became good friends and Toomp became T.I.'s main producer.

Together, DJ Toomp and T.I. helped bring trap music to a wider audience. Trap music is a style of hip hop that started in the Southern United States. Their work was a huge success. In 2006, Toomp produced T.I.'s hit song "What You Know". The song was a massive hit and earned both DJ Toomp and T.I. their first Grammy Award.

Working with Kanye West

Because of his success, DJ Toomp was asked by famous rapper and producer Kanye West to help with his 2007 album, Graduation.

DJ Toomp co-produced two hit singles from the album: "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Good Life". He also co-produced the album's final song, "Big Brother". This song was about Kanye West's friendship with the rapper Jay-Z. Working on this popular album showed that DJ Toomp was one of the top producers in music.
