Aldrin Davis (born August 2, 1969), known professionally as DJ Toomp, is an American record producer, songwriter, and DJ. He helps create music for many famous artists. DJ Toomp started his career in 1985 when he was only 16 years old.

Starting Out in Music

DJ Toomp began working with Atlanta MC (which means "Master of Ceremonies" or rapper) Raheem the Dream. He produced Raheem's first record. In the late 1980s, DJ Toomp became the official DJ for MC Shy-D.

He toured with MC Shy-D and the famous group 2 Live Crew. They performed at many places across the country. They shared the stage with other big hip hop acts like N.W.A. and Ice-T. After MC Shy-D left his record label, Toomp continued to DJ for JT Money and the Poison Clan.

Building a Record Label

In 2006, DJ Toomp teamed up with another experienced hip hop artist, Bernard Parks, Jr. Together, they started their own record label called NZone Entertainment. This allowed them to discover and help new artists.

Making Hits with T.I.

DJ Toomp became much more well-known by working with southern rapper T.I.. T.I. is also from Atlanta, Georgia. They first worked together on T.I.'s first album, I'm Serious, in 2001.

Since then, they became good friends and strong work partners. DJ Toomp became T.I.'s main producer. He played a big part in T.I.'s first four albums. Together, they helped bring trap music into the mainstream. This means it became popular with many people.

In 2006, DJ Toomp received a lot of praise for producing T.I.'s hit single "What You Know". This song reached number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 music chart. The song also earned both DJ Toomp and T.I. their first Grammy Award.

Collaborating with Kanye West

In 2007, famous American rapper and producer Kanye West asked DJ Toomp to help with his third album, Graduation. DJ Toomp worked with Kanye West to produce several songs.

They co-produced the popular singles "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Good Life". He also helped produce the album's last song, "Big Brother". This song was a tribute to Kanye West's friendship with fellow rapper Jay-Z.
