Daffy Duck's Quackbusters is a fun animated movie from 1988. It brings together classic Warner Bros. Cartoons starring Daffy Duck. The film mixes old cartoon clips with new animated parts that connect the story. It was the last movie where Mel Blanc voiced many famous Looney Tunes characters before he passed away.
This movie is different because it uses music from older Looney Tunes cartoons. It was also inspired by the famous movie Ghostbusters. Many of the cartoons in Quackbusters have a spooky but funny theme. They include stories about ghosts, vampires, and even a Yeti. This movie was shown on HBO and later on Cartoon Network.
What the Movie is About
The movie starts with a special cartoon called The Night of the Living Duck. After this, we meet Daffy Duck, who is a salesman. He tries to make a rich dog named J.P. Cubish laugh. Cubish is very old and has promised his money to anyone who can make him giggle before he dies. Daffy succeeds, and Cubish laughs so much he passes away.
Daffy then inherits a huge fortune! But there's a catch. The money is in a safe, and Daffy must use it for a good public service. He also has to be honest in all his business dealings. If he isn't, Cubish's ghost will take the money back. Daffy gets annoyed and decides to use the money to get rid of all ghosts, including Cubish's.
Daffy opens a business called "Paranormalist at Large." He convinces Bugs Bunny to star in his TV commercials. He also hires Porky Pig as his helper, and Porky brings along his cat, Sylvester. Whenever Daffy does something dishonest, Cubish's ghost makes money disappear from the safe.
Meanwhile, Sylvester is constantly scared by a giant version of Tweety Bird. This makes Sylvester very nervous around Daffy and Porky. Daffy sends Porky and Sylvester to a spooky town called Dry Gulch to look for ghosts. Sylvester has to protect Porky from killer mice at their hotel!
Daffy also takes on a job to get rid of three ghosts haunting Melissa Duck. After the ghosts chase him back to his office, Daffy finds that Cubish has taken almost all his money. So, Daffy sends Porky and Sylvester to the Superstition Mountains.
Later, Daffy gets a call from Transylvania. He sends Bugs Bunny to investigate. Bugs meets Count Blood Count and wins a magic word duel against him. But Daffy isn't happy with Bugs' report. Then, Daffy gets another call from the Himalayas. He sends Bugs again, and this time, Daffy joins him. They both face Hugo the Abominable Snowman.
Back in the city, there are reports of a tiny elephant wandering around. Daffy thinks it's just people imagining things. He goes on TV to tell everyone there's no such thing as a tiny elephant. But right as he says it, the tiny elephant appears on the TV screen! Daffy becomes a laughingstock.
Daffy gets angry and blames someone else. He accidentally says that "there was nothing wrong with a little dishonesty in business affairs." As soon as he says this, the safe becomes completely empty. Cubish's ghost leaves a note saying, "YOU LOSE, DUCK!" Then, Egghead shows up to tell Daffy he hasn't paid his rent. Daffy's office building is taken apart and destroyed, with Daffy still inside!
In the end, Bugs Bunny is enjoying his vacation. Porky and Sylvester are stuck in the Superstition Mountains. Daffy goes back to being a salesman, selling ghost-themed toys. But even then, any money he earns instantly vanishes. Daffy shakes his fist at the sky and yells "Cubish!"
